DDL links are here!

See? I've been a veritable busy bee lately. Since some people have been commenting how our torrents tend to die out at times, I looked around for a way to reinstate our DDL options. Luckily, I was able to come across an exceptional site that allows fansub groups precisely that option for free! Maiku Ando, the MATV site owner and manager, was extremely helpful in setting up the whole thing, so without any further ado, here are the DDL links for episodes we have released so far:

Porfy no nagai tabi 05 MATV DDL - Pending...

Note that the MATV site works based on a group's torrents, so you'll still need to download the v2 patch for Episode 03 separately. Hopefully, we can get that replaced at a batch release in the near future.

On an aside note, does anyone know what's wrong with the AniRena site and tracker? There's been no news yet, so I'd like to know if this might be more permanent. I've been checking out other trackers but many of them need registration and have ratio restrictions, both of which I find a major turn down. But is this keeps up, I'm seriously thinking of turning to any general public tracker as back up for Nyaa.

Distro people needed - Ζητούνται διανομείς

Hey everyone! Long time, no see, huh? But guess what! Episode 06 is ready for release! I'm just waiting for the Anirena tracker to get back up since it seems down at the moment. Which brings us back to a very important issue.

Since the direct download links are no longer an option, we've been getting reports that it's difficult to download our torrents. Which is understandable, since I'm the only one seeding them at the moment and I can't keep it up 24/7. Soooooo, you know what this means, right? We're going to need Distro slaves! XD

What do you need to apply for the job?
- A computer that almost never shuts down.
- Steady internet connection.
- Our torrents up and running.

Without dedicated distributors, it becomes extremely difficult to keep the torrents up and running smoothly over large periods of time, so your contribution will be priceless. Right now, we're looking for at least 1-2 people for the spot, so feel free to send an e-mail or drop a line here. Cheers!

Τι χρειάζεστε για να αναλάβετε αυτή τη θέση;

Porphy's incredibly realistic sceneries

The guys at the AnimeSuki forums are really cool. Remember that tiny little problem I mentioned about Aegisub refusing to cooperate with video on my interim replacement laptop? Well, apparently the Aegisub developer tends to hang out in that forum and was cool enough to provide almost instant help and advice for my problem. I got to finally feel like a normal human being again, with my Aegisub back to being all nice and shiny and functional. So, I spent a good few hours wrapping up the Greek translation of Porfy's episode 5 today, including the final scene-timing and fine-timing adjustments. Only about 200 already-finely-timed lines left to translate back into English, wheee! Although, with the amount of studying for the 2kyuu I've been doing lately, I have gotten into this nasty habit of finding the Japanese version of what is being said the most natural thing in the world, and the other two languages merely cumbersome wannabes... Ugh, like I said, disturbing. And I'm not even going for the 2kyuu until next year. Japanese lessons start next week though and I wanted to impress our new teacher. Yeah, I know, my classmates probably hate me. :P

Anyway, like I was saying, I spent a good part of today working on Porfy. And it came to me that I've never really commented before on how realistic this anime series is in its depiction of Greece. Every single scenery take bears an uncannily exact likeliness to the real Greece, the one tourists almost never get to meet since it's hidden miles away from the nearest hotel. And I'm not merely talking about the big stuff, such as landscapes or flora and fauna. It's the little things that take my breath away and take me years back to when my parents would leave my sister and me spend our summers in our grandparents' house in Sparta. Like the way the fireplace is built and what kind of pots people used back then. The way the goat and chicken pens were built. The roads and the plants that grow on their side. The colors of the house walls and roof tiles. My grandmother's sister's house was exactly like the house Porphy and Mina live in, with a wooden staircase to the attic, which was actually a bedroom. Another aunt's house was just like Zaimis' place, with the tiled roof terrace. I could go on and on for hours, but the point is that the extraordinary part of this series is the serious attention that has gone into these little details. When I first watched it, I could have sworn there must have been a Greek person in the developing team, who then proceeded to invite them to some obscure little mountain village that still looks the same today. There was no other explanation to it. It really does take my breath away with every new scenery that is being introduced.

Then again, I decided later on there was probably no Greek person on board the production team due to some glaring mistakes in the Greek text in Mina's book (which read something like "Apollo is the god of medic scinc and musi, as we as protctr of potry, mathematis and prophsy" *giggles*). But that made me respect them even more. Whatever the case, every time I watch Porfy, I get transported back to my childhood summers, which makes me feel incredibly nostalgic. So I thought I'd share with you guys. ^_^

Porfy has not been dropped

*peers inside*

Hello everyone. It really has been quite some time now, but I'm kinda relieved to be finally back. I hope people didn't get too bumped up over the long absence of any Porfy releases. To be honest, I was in no mood to sub for a while there. But let me explain myself first.

This whole thing started right back in spring, when my (almost) brand new 2-year-old laptop broke down. Sizzled its circuits... Blacked out its pixels... You get the idea. The problem was, it was petty enough to take all of my data along with it.

Now, those of you who happen to work with any kind of data processing, can certainly imagine what a nightmare that is. I suddenly lost all of the stuff I was translating for my part-time job, the results from several research projects for my morning job, pages upon pages of written reports, data tables, heaps of reference material... The Porfy scripts and some other as of yet unannounced projects were also in there somewhere, and that was just another detail that seriously got to my nerves.

I then proceeded to spend half the summer undoing the damage that had been done. I was scavenging flash drives and random CDs trying to salvage any of my lost files. I ended up having to rewrite several reports and summaries and educational material. And then I just threw everything away and went on vacation, hehe.

Long story short, I was only able to start thinking about Porfy without feeling bitter a couple of weeks ago. I actually had to track down my password for logging into my account before I could post here, it'd been so long. I even had to re-download my own torrents. Now, I don't have a proper computer yet, just a rusty old thing that can hardly handle Aegisub. But I discovered that I had finished encoding episode 5 before the break-down and stashed it in a mini-drive. So, now that things have gone back to normal, I've been feeling like getting back to my old routine and started fooling around with subbing Porfy again. To be honest, I wouldn't expect miracles yet. Aegisub can't handle video on my current computer, so I work with sound alone. But I still have the DVDs with the raw files, and I found one of my old encoding scripts with MeGUI's encoding options and I should be getting my hands on a new laptop soon... I'm saving up money particularly for that reason.

Bottom line is, I know the wait has been long, but don't give up on Porfy just yet. With a little bit of luck, there should be more releases here again soon.

See ya all...
